This paper proposes a hybrid wide-range step-up DC-DC converter consisting of Ladder switched-capacitor (SC) structure, an inductor, and a coupled inductor (CL). In contrast to the traditional Ladder switched-capacitor converter (SCC), the proposed hybrid converter exhibits an expansive voltage gain range and superior step-up gain, which is advantageous for photovoltaic applications. Moreover, the inherent current spike problem prevalent in the traditional Ladder SCC is tackled. The working principle, voltage gain, component stress, and boundary condition are analyzed comprehensively. Furthermore, a comparison with other converters proves the superiority of the proposed converter. To substantiate its performance and utility, a 200 W prototype operating with the input range of 28 V–91 V and delivering an output of 400 V was designed, constructed, and validated.
