摘要
Voltage source converters(VSCs) based on series-connected power devices can have smaller size compared to modular multilevel converters. A major issue with this solution is the unequal static and dynamic voltage sharing among series-connected devices. To address this issue, an active clamping module(ACM) has been proposed to balance the voltages of series-connected SiC MOSFETs. This paper employs this method for series-connected IGBTs, and it is found the operating principles of the ACM can be affected by the tail current effect and reverse recovery phenomenon when using IGBTs. This paper details these influences, and a dynamic adjustment strategy for the discharge parameters is proposed to reduce the extra charging amount introduced by the reverse recovery current. Experimental results are provided to validate the analysis and voltages of series-connected IGBTs can be well balanced under various conditions.
