Due to the great voltage boost capacity and self-balancing characteristics of the capacitor voltage, the switched-capacitor multilevel inverters (SCMLIs) have caused extensive attention from researchers globally. A family of SCMLIs synthesized from configurable submodules is proposed in this paper. Through the different configurations of submodules, a large number of topologies can be derived for different applications. In this paper, the examples of three submodules are listed and compared, and one of them is chosen to be analyzed in detail, including the circuit configuration, operation principle and modulation strategy. The simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed structure.
