This paper presents an analysis of the bidirectional wireless power transfer (BWPT) system characteristics. Firstly, the BWPT system model with LCC compensation networks is built. Meanwhile, according to the system model, an equivalent two-port network is established. Then, the system output power and transmission efficiency in both charging directions are deduced. Finally, a 3.3 kW BWPT system prototype is designed, and simulations are conducted to validate the analysis based on the prototype parameters. The results show that the forward output power variation trend with the primary side parallel compensation capacitance is similar to the backward output power variation trend with the secondary side parallel compensation capacitance, and vice versa. And, the variation trends of the system efficiency in both charging directions with the two capacitances share the same similarities.
